FAREWELL TO JANET
45 years is sometimes more than a
lifetime. Janet Fernandes our
support staff bid us goodbye on her
60th birthday – after
spending 45 years working for the
college.
To commemorate her memorable
association with Carmel College, the
Principal Dr. Sr. M Aradhana, A.C.
and staff (teaching and
non-teaching) met for a farewell
on19th October 2011 in the college
hall.
The meeting opened with a prayer by
Sr. Aradhana thanking God for the
gift of Janet. In her speech Sr.
Aradhana said of Janet:
'Simplicity and grace, is how I
always think of you. Your
faithfulness to duty is an
inspiration to all of us – for
whatever you undertook, you did it
with love'.
Sr. Elvira then thanked Janet and
gave her a cash gift on behalf of
the institution.
Dr. Mini of the Botany department
spoke of the selfless service
rendered by Janet and described her
as a karma yogi. Ms. Akalpita spoke
of how Janet touched the lives of
the people who came her way. Ms
Mary Augustine of
the Botany department movingly
recalled how Janet took special care
of her when she had had a fall. Mr.
Wellington spoke for
the non-teaching staff and said how
good Janet was to everyone.
Sports-in-charge Mr. Olavo Gama
speaking in Konkani said Janet’s
attitude to work was an inspiration
to everyone. Mr. Agnelo of the
History department remembered the
humour which Janet was always quick
to share.
Moved by the occasion, Janet,
speaking in Konkani, thanked the
institution for the fruitful years
she had spent there. She apologized
if she had hurt anyone.
Later Janet was invited to the
Teachers’ Staff Room where she was
felicitated by the teachers with a
bouquet and a gift.
