GREEN CONCERT

Carmel College of Arts, Science & Commerce for Women, the only Women’s College in the state of Goa has been pioneering the efforts of eco-sensitization for the last several decades and has earned for itself a respectable position in the academic arena of the state.   A concert  to express the thematic areas of biodiversity, climate change and environment through the media of Dance , Drama & Music  was organized by Carmel College  in association with the Centre for Environmental Education ( CEE) , Goa, and supported by the Dept. of Science & Tech. , Govt. of Goa, on Saturday, 12th February 2011.

The Green Concert got an amazing response from colleges throughout the state.   The event created an impetus for the goal of creating awareness on the living heritage of our nation and the biodiversity of our state. The competition offered not only a platform for the youth in the Higher Education Sector to showcase their performance skills and acumen but also facilitate introspection on the current global scenario vis-a-vis biodiversity, climate change and environment thus educating them discretely though informally .

The Green Concert was inaugurated by the manager of the Apostolic Carmel Society, Dr. (Sr.) Elvira Tellis Nayak. The competition evoked a tremendous response from the students. Our Hon. Minister for Environment of the state of Goa, Shri. Alexio Sequeira interacted with the student participants and invited questions on issues of contemporary and local relevance concerning the state of Goa.  The Deputy Program Coordinator, CEE – Goa, Mr. Sujit Kumar Dongre shared his views with the audience. The day concluded with the ecstatic winners receiving the prices at the hands of Hon. Minister for Environment, Shri. Alexio Sequeira. .
